Now open, closing soon, what’s coming next for Overland Park’s Oak Park Mall at 95th and Quivira.
After more than 15 years of operations, Five Guys Burgers & Fries plans to close its Oak Park Mall store on July 15th.
The franchisee, Hyde Park Ventures, said the mall is not renewing its lease, but they “absolutely loved being at this location and we will miss our customers!”
The franchisee also owns the Five Guys locations in Bluhawk at 7733 W. 159th St. and 9133 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park, as well as the location at 11900 B Shawnee Mission Parkway, Shawnee.
The Oak Park Mall restaurant was part of a revamp on the mall’s northwest entrance, opening in late 2010. A two-story 35,000-square-foot Barnes & Noble opened nearby in 2009, giving consumers the option of outside or inside entrances.
Oak Park Mall officials said they have a new restaurant concept lined up for the Five Guys space. Details will be released later.
Gearhead Outfitters. Mall officials said its lease is expiring and it will close soon. Employees put the closing date as July 6th. Company officials could not be reached for comment. The store opened in 2023.
JD Sports is currently under construction and scheduled to open later this year on the first level near H&M. The retailer of athletic footwear, and casual and sports apparel also has a location on the Country Club Plaza.
Sage & Berry Acai Bowl has opened in the food court. The locally-owned operation serves specialty bowls (such as the Chocolate Lover with an acai base, topped with granola, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, chocolate chips and a Nutella drizzle). Customers also can build their own bowls.

This “Marry Me Shrimp” recipe was a big hit at our little dinner party. From Hungry Happens - with butter, garlic and cream (well, the recipe calls for Half & Half but I made a management decision) what’s not to love.
